The Worshipful Company of
Chartered Secretaries and Administrators

Charitable Activities

On the Company's founding, a Charitable Trust was established largely by an appeal to Liverymen, who continue to maintain the growth of the Fund both by regular donation and, for some, by the occasional one-off contributions too.

The Charitable Trustees meet quarterly, and disburse investment income in the form of prizes, bursaries, and scholarships at academic institutions throughout the country linked either to the qualifications of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators or related business fields. The Charitable Trustees also make donations to worthy charities.

In conjunction with the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Commercial Education Trust and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, the Charitable Trustees support the annual Rivers Lecture.

In 2003 the Company entered into an affiliation with Rokeby School, a boys’ secondary school in Stratford, London E15. The Charitable Trustees make donations in support of the school, further details of which are given under Educational Activities and on the school website.

Each year, Company silver medals are presented to two members of each of the administrative branches of the three Armed Services, one commissioned and one non-commissioned officer, who have given the best performance in administrative courses. In addition, a prize is presented at Royal Air Force Cranwell and prizes have been instituted with the Staff and Personnel Support Branch (Army) and the Administrative Branch of the Royal Air Force for outstanding operational achievements, and with the Fleet Air Arm for the best young officer passing out of flying officer training.

Each year a charity event is held to raise money for the Master's nominated charity. In 2009 a sum in excess of £1,600 was raised and donated to the British Heart Foundation.

The Apprentices of the Company take part in sponsored events to raise money for charity, these include the annual City Dip in aid of the Lord Mayor's Charity. In recent years, the Apprentices have:

  • undertaken a sponsored walk in the Ashdown Forest raising £5,800 for London Youth, a charity that provides a network of some 400 youth clubs across the capital.
  • participated in a sponsored abseil at Canary Wharf raising money for Cancer Research UK.
