Mansion House Scholar 2016
The early months of 2016 saw the Master and Wardens in the company of Mr Dhari Al-Zayed, our ‘adopted’ Mansion House Scholar, as they attended a number of functions. Dhari is a credit analyst in the Private Banking Division of Ahli United Bank in Kuwait and came to the City to attend a 12-week post graduate course in Finance and related topics at the London School of Business and Finance. Dhari also attended events organised through the Mansion House Scholarship Scheme.
Dhari was introduced by us to the British way of things with a traditional afternoon tea at the City Livery Club. In March he attended the United Guilds Service at St Paul’s Cathedral and afterwards joined members of the Company for lunch at Stationers’ Hall. In late April we once again had afternoon tea at the City Livery Club. It was most enjoyable spending time with him and hearing about life in Kuwait and his ambitions. Dhari has now returned to Kuwait.
The Company previously sponsored Miss Bilyana Apostolova in January 2007 as a Mansion House Scholar. In sponsoring Dhari this year, we have once again been able to demonstrate our commitment to education and contribute in a meaningful way to a prestigious City charity involved in education. To achieve this, the Charitable Trust increased its contribution to the Mansion House Scholarship Scheme significantly. We are grateful to the secretary of the Scheme for helping us to ‘adopt’ Dhari as our scholar.
